.FR and .RE will be available, from the 6th of December, to entities domiciled in the European Union.

Those two extensions, operated by AFNIC, used to be restricted to natural people living on the french territory and to french and to corporate bodies also located in France.

AFNIC is today turning 25 and has a new visual identity, created by communication agency Emakina.

.FR domain names are more and more successfull, as they highlight french companies and organizations on the web.

According to the 22nd of march 2011 law, .FR registration rules will be modified.

Indeed, these new rules especially allow the registration of the prohibited and reserved terms, like, for example, the city names from the 1rst of July 2011.

Applicants who want to get those domain names must prove their legitimacy and good faith.

If they can’t, applicants could be asked additionnal documents by AFNIC, the .FR registry.

The rule of “first come, first serve” will be applied.

Moreover, from the 31rst of December, natural people and corporate bodies will be able to register a .FR domain name. NETIM is curretly providing trustee service to cope with this restriction.


We remind you that NETIM is an AFNIC accredited registrar and is thus managing a large number of .FR domain names.
